It was during one of those early garden mornings that I had the chance to really get to know Sarah.

She and her son, Noah, came to explore the garden together and as Noah explored one thing after another, Sarah and I chatted about life a bit.

She told me that she used to give classes to kiddos and that she really loved bringing Noah to Grow Club for the different events.

A few questions later and I learned that Sarah has her PhD and works remotely here in GR for the National Audubon Society’s science team!

Whoa.

The National Audubon Society is an organization that works to protect birds in our country.

Listen to the words of their mission statement: For 120 years and counting, the National Audubon Society has preserved bird habitats, conducted scientific research, influenced policymakers to enact commonsense conservation laws, and engaged communities across the hemisphere to protect the natural resources upon which birds—and we—depend. By “bending the bird curve,” we are working to halt, and ultimately reverse, the decline of birds across the Americas.

Birds on the pond

Sarah knows A LOT about nature. She knows a LOT about conservation. She knows A LOT about birds.

And she is passionate about it. She is dedicating her life to it.

AND she is coming to Grow Club to tell us about the birds she loves!

I really cannot believe how fortunate I am to have chatted with Sarah that day and learned about her and her amazing work!

Our Saturday together will start with a family-friendly presentation about bird migration in Michigan, where hundreds of thousands of birds fly our skies every fall!

Then we will make homemade binoculars and head out back with Sarah for some birdwatching on our nature trails!

And all of this is only $10/family!

It’s this Saturday, Sept 19 from 10am-12pm >come early for the class and stay as long as you’d like!
