Middle of January, why hello there! 👋

Is everyone settled back into the post-holiday schedule?

Kids back to school, you back to the grind, the dog has her regular nap time again?

While the regularity can feel relieving after the holiday frenzy, January can be a hard month to travel through…

The beginning holds the exciting momentum of the New Year, but the energy can quickly die off when schedules return, we’re cloaked in wet, cold weather, and very few sun-sightings!

Just know I’m right there with you.

For what it’s worth, here are some life-lines I have found to help me through this dreary time of year:

For the body:

  • Vitamin D + K2 (the K2 helps with absorption)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Magnesium before bed for better sleep and to ease that constant tension in your shoulders

*But I’m no doctor, so make sure to consult yours to ensure you’re doing what’s right for you and your body*

For some self-care moments:

  • Cozy soups and hot tea in the evenings
  • Lighting candles (battery ones work great with little hands around!)
  • Sauna or a long hot shower
  • Daily stretching before bed—even five minutes shifts everything
For the mental load:

  • Do a January “brain dump”—write down all the things you’re mentally tracking, then calendar, delegate, or drop what you can
  • Putting a puzzle together (kids this age make surprisingly good puzzle partners!)
  • Looking through flower books or seed catalogs
  • Printing off pictures from the past year and updating your frames

For connection:

  • Monthly dinner swap with a friend—you each cook double, trade half, get an easy meal plus that feeling of being thought about
  • Weekly text thread where you share one highlight and one hard thing

For the kiddos:

  • Maybe a Saturday craft morning as a “pick me up”?

Here’s a link for fingerprint painting taken to the next level.

Your kids can create a whole adventure story with the animal critters they make.

As a family, you can experience a bit of the January calm, mixed with some creative ways to add color to the gray days! 🎨

I’m along for the ride with you.

Growing with you,

Caroline Thomet
